The McReady farm is a corn farm near Godshand. When it stops sending corn, Janos asks the party to investigate. Its fate is recorded in The Great Popcorn Disappearance.
People and places
Maude and Diane McReady and their twin daughters are mentioned in the account. The farm includes a cornfield, farmhouse, silo, barn, storm cellar beneath the kitchen, and a tunnel dug by the pig Ruffles. The notes later describe Maude and Diane as apparently dead; the twins are found alive in the cellar.
The farmhouse
The party reaches a quiet farmhouse and silo after seeing animated corpses move blackened corn. Cherryblossom, Crimp’s ox, breaks through a locked entrance. A welcoming Mrs. McReady appears, but Peter hears breathing beyond the kitchen and sees through the dining area’s illusion.
An altar bears the Jaded One’s symbol upside down. Mentioning the daughters wakes Diane from a trance, and she says she locked the twins in the cellar. The children report that Ruffles changed after eating corn from the field.
Corruption and ritual
The party follows Ruffles’ tunnel into black goo and altered animals, frees the pig from controlling crystals, and discovers a strange metal corn object. RoBeert’s vision points them toward a cornfield ritual and a possible connection to the lake and mountain.
They weaken the ritual, defeat the summoned shadow demon, and return to town with the corn shipment for the Debate. The long-term condition of the farm and the safety of the black corn are not resolved in the account.
