Barathia

Barathia is a resplendent desert city on the Tales of Fate world map.

Season 2 notes

The party arrives in the resplendent city of Barathia after a harrowing crossing of the desert. The opulent city houses people from all walks of the desert and seems to be thriving. The party does some shopping and meet the mysterious Shere-Khan, magic item salesman. The group also discovers that Pricia is angry at Anoin for having left her behind. The group also leaves Bianca with Bronzebeard for an upgrade.

While trying to find Pricia, the group encounters a terrifying creature fusing magic, metal and flesh!

The party manages to run away from the creature with the group of strangers battling it. They discover that this group is a resistance group within the city trying to save the population from the creature that has been rampaging since their arrival.

Anoin manages to maintain a friendship with Pricia, Noita learns more about the means of approaching the God-king and about the creature while Kissa learns about her family history.

Her grandmother was part of an assassins group hiding within circuses. She had a contract to steal the Divine Eye necklace to Orso. She reneged and in order to buy her way out of Grimbergen, she sold the cape of 9 lives to Ueli, knowing that it would end in the right hands (this hints to the party that the grandmother could use fully the Eye).

The group manages to gain audience with Barath by staging Noita’s recovery as a miracle performed by him. He accepts to provide the means to track the tower in exchange of the party slaying the Beast’s body. The Beast is Barath’s guide who fell from Heaven for having rebelled against it because of it considering Heaven of being unfair to mortals. Barath created a body for the guide because he was sick of sharing with him, but the guide went berserk and is rampaging through the town. Barath wishes for the Beast to return to him but it only appears when he sleeps.

Barath refuses to give the cape away, but he promises to help the party when war will be waged against the King in Red. He also offers the information about a necromancer moving through the desert and going to Hoegarden Oasis.

The party prepares to set a trap for the Beast.

Preparing for the trap, the party visits again Shere-Khan to equip themselves. They share their plans with him and Anoin’s Divine sense reveals that he is a devil: a Rakhshasa. He is a creature whose race was twisted into becoming devils after being interplanar mercenaries. He proposes to use Anoin as bait to lure the creature, his inner divine essence is a surefire bait for the Heaven-hating beast. He has a way of getting rid of the Beast for good: trapping its essence in a special dagger after weakening it. The group takes the dagger and prepare for the fight.

With an upgraded Bianca and the means to trap the creature, the battle rages with the three different aspects of the body of the guide. Several members of the group go down as well as John and Pricia. In a revealing moment, Anoin decides to let Noita come into harms way under the guidance of his own divine guide for an opportunity to strike his enemy. Kissa plunges the dagger in the Beast and seals its essence in the dagger.

The battle is over and the party lick their wounds as Shere-Khan comes to collect his dagger and offers boutiful loot for the party. He tells them that he will not harm them directly and that with this dagger, his business can be brought elsewhere in the multiverse. The party must now decide what to do next: leave the town now before Barath becomes aware of their stealing of the essence of the Guide or stay for final goodbyes before leaving for the Tomb of the Delian order knight in Hoegarden Oasis.
