Practitioners of magic are kept under a tight leash after the events that unfolded during Alera’s rampage. A blood sample is kept at a repository in Kaern’Dal in order to ensure that if a practitioner of magic was found to cause trouble, they could be hunted relentlessly and removed. All people found with a talent for magic must report to Kaern’Dal to receive an education to use their powers responsibly. Failure to do so would have you branded as a hedge magician.
Within the Arcane academy, the students are given an education in responsible practice of one’s magical talents. Once they are sanctioned, practitioners are sent throughout the world to advise local community leaders and create a link with local enforcement organization (usually religious) to track other practitioners of magic
