The Primordial Fire of the Heavens was revealed to the Plane of Flesh by the Celestials. Their influence brought the Tavik civilization up and enabled this world-sprawling empire to thrive and create wonders of magic. The Heavens was the closest it had ever been to the plane of flesh, with Celestials walking the land and guiding the people.
The Celestial whose name was struck from history, was consumed by greed and betrayed the other Celestials. The Betrayer, as they would come to be known, wished for all power and domination over all that was on the Plane of Flesh and the Heavens.
The Betrayer was fair, charismatic, powerful and scheming. The war that broke out for the very essence of all thinking beings and was devastating to the continent. The Tavik Empire was razed as a result. All races participated in the conflict with the exception of the Elves (having not yet been seen on the Plane of Flesh until the return of the Celestials later). The Orcs and Goblinoids had sided with the forces of the Betrayer as well as some humans who defected from the Empire. The Dwarves and remaining humans were pushed back by devious tactics and betrayals of close ones during the conflict.
The Betrayer slayed Cidias, Celestial of Harmony and Order and in the wake of the death of this divine being, the magic of the world was tainted by the gravest of sins. The pervasive flow of Arcane Magic emanating from the Natural flow was thrown into chaos. No one would ever be able to wield arcane magic without taking the proper precautions.
The remaining Celestials endowed a mortal with their powers while they performed a ritual to push the Heavens away from the Plane of Flesh and their envoy sealed the Betrayer away. This mortal, named Junon, met the Betrayer on the fields of Twilight and bought time for the Celestialsto perform their ritual.
There, Junon died and burned her corporeal essence away to banish the Betrayer for good. However, all was not won yet. Followers of the Betrayer reached for Ziebglen in order to themselves disrupt the ritual and taint the Heavens. They were stopped by the great sacrifice of Saint Aumogonne and her group of devout followers. The ritual was performed and the Celestials were not heard of for centuries. These Saints gave away freely their lives for the safety of all. They ascended as Celestials in the Heavens.
The Tavik empire crumbled, knowledge was lost and the rebuilding of civilization was difficult to come about. However 400 years ago, the Celestials re-established contact with the plane of flesh. They were here to redeem all of us and guide us to the Heavens. By “burning” their voices into the celestial flow, they are able to speak with a select number of us and guide us. Thus we have grown, rebuilt and learned things that were long forgotten. We are more mindful of our place and serve the Celestials once more so that we may not be tempted once again by another Betrayer.
