The world is thought to have been created by a single entity that split into what is now known as Suriel and Nerigoth. The two entities then started warring as they were the antitheiss of one another. After the destruction of the other continents of this world, they decided to not squander the existence of those they helped birth and removed themselves from the world. They left behind a piece of their essence to inhabit a chosen champion, a weapon and a beast of their own making to battle each other.

Between the broken landscapes and twisting of magic, the world wept and bled as mortals were used to fuel their conflict. Long they fought and much destruction was unleashed. It was not the Chosen who would put an end to the conflict, but mortals whose passions were ignited. Nerigoth’s Chosen protected the retreat of Ixis, the Leviathan into an everlasting maelstrom as it was struck by Celnaeus, the Glaive of Light. In return, the continent was wounded by the Blackblade of Nerigoth and the wound would have festered were it not for the Druids raising the Silver Wardens mountains as the armies of Suriel retreated from the blow.

The King of Legend, Xavian, Chosen Champion of Suriel, Sun Herald, waged war against the then-liege of the dwarves, who were strong followers of Nerigoth. Xavian “purified” the dwarven holds in the North and broke their connection to Nerigoth. Doing so, Xavian shattered the Glaive of Light and his own life in order to put an end to the conflict.

The Archmage of Destruction, Alera, who loved Xavian dearly, saw his sacrifice and death as a betrayal of Suriel. She sought to curse all that Suriel had touched. She cursed the land known today as Night’s Reach to experience eternal night. She transformed the most devout followers of Suriel into that which she thought befitted those who sang the praises of the one she despises. She fought Omael, Phoenix of Suriel. The conflagration resulted in her death, the disappearance of the Phoenix and turned the Shattered Lands into a desert.

The Chosen of Nerigoth shielded best they could against the onslaught of destructive magic and vanished once Alera’s magic essence subsided.

The glaive of light, Celnaeus, shattered in myriad pieces, was scattered. Omael was defeated, the Leiathan licked its deep wounds away from the world and the champion Xavian was dead. The only remaining presence of Suriel on the continent is the Sunwell. A temple of worship that shines brightly ever since. Until now…the Light flickers and weakens.
