Dm-ing

Hey everyone, I am maybe your future DM or your current one.

I have been playing DnD 5e for since 2016 and have been DM-ing since 2017. I enjoy roleplaying the most and being surprised by some crazy, dangerous and risky plays from the players. I want to empower you in those decisions and give you an opportunity to get a win at that moment. I want you to show the other players how cool your character is.

I managed to pull off a 1-20 campaign IRL and have started running games online for a couple of years now. In terms of DM-ing style, I have started branching out and I am leaning more and more towards mechanics and incentives to promote interparty roleplay from other tabletop RPGs. I appreciate players who have enough emotional maturity to understand what moments are more comical, dramatic or serious. I tend to prefer playing with people who are adults (18+). I usually don’t see failing a roll as the end of your attempt, rather the beginning for you to propose something that puts your character in an interesting situation for everybody. I believe that everyone at the table should have fun and that players, in no small part, contribute to that also and should be aware and make things fun for everyone else.

As far as pet peeves go, I don’t very much like players who are suspicious of everything and every NPCs that the DM throws your way. Sure, there are some assholes out there, but if you act like you can’t trust anyone, they have no reason to start the process to make you trust them.

The game I wish to run is a homebrewed world and a homebrewed story or something more open world (in the sense that the “main driving force” is a bulldozer coming for the doll house and you’ve got to save the day). I want to introduce some mechanics that help elevate the stakes, involve the player more in the world and encourage inter-party interactions. For this to work, I stole a bunch of mechanics from other games and tried to implement them into DnD 5e. They have so far worked without too much tweaking. What I require from the player is a willingness to learn if you’re new, be a team player and respectful person, have a consistent timetable that enables regular play.
